Padma Rajagopal Tribute This area is a tribute to our dear Padma Rajagopal. It consists of her writing, our memories of her, and vignettes of her life. We wanted a central place to assemble all this material, so that her loved ones, and all the countless people, groups and activists who were involved with her in so many different ways; could have a way of remembering, visiting, and sharing. It is a sort of "Scrapbook" in honour of Padma’s life and work, designed so that the visitor can target the personal and/or professional areas as appropriate. We know little Keshav will appreciate this as he gets older, getting to know his mama through our accounts of her and her own writings.
At this point, we are not sure how the environmental work she was so involved in and dedicated to can carry on under the Seed Trust banner, since her vision, energy, and daily commitment was its driving force. Padma’s husband, Mathew, is determined to keep the farm running and operational as an eco-tourism venture, along with bringing up their 2-year old son Keshav. If any one out there has any ideas, we would be happy to hear them. Please also signpost to this site people who are interested (personally or professionally) in environmental issues, particularly in developing countries. It may be that out of your ideas and energy something beautiful is born. None of us, her immediate family and friends, are overly knowledgeable and aware of environmental issues other than in a layperson’s capacity. In compiling this, I have found myself laughing, crying, remembering, and reflecting. It is hard to think of her in the past tense. Up to the day before her sudden and untimely death late last summer we had exchanged emails, always looking to the future, the next project. I dedicate this to one of the truest, dearest, and most interesting friends I have ever had, to her wonderful family who have become our family, and to her fellow activists who tirelessly work for a better earth for us all.
